FOI release

External quality assurance provider for SIA door supervisors

Published 3 November 2021

1. Request

The name of the EQA (External Quality Assurance) provider for SIA door supervisors.

2. Response

I can confirm that we do not hold the information you have requested.

The SIA is required by law to set or approve standards of training and this is done by creating and publishing Specifications for Learning and Qualifications. These specifications are used by awarding organisations such as the British Institute of Innkeeping, Highfield ABC Awarding Body and NOCN, Industry Qualifications and other government approved awarding organisations recognised to offer assessment and quality assurance for nationally recognised qualifications. A list of awarding organisations can be found here.

These awarding organisations must be approved by the SIA and the relevant qualifications regulator (in England the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator, OfQual). The training is delivered by training providers who are in turn approved and audited by one or more awarding organisations.

The SIA is the statutory regulator for the private security industry. It does not regulate qualifications or training delivery. This falls within the scope of qualifications regulators.

I suggest that you contact the awarding organisations to establish which EQAs they use.
