Details

The 65th annual report on the Export of Objects of Cultural Interest by the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest. The report covers the two-year period 1 May 2018 to 30 April 2020, in which 45 cases were considered by the Reviewing Committee. 34 cases were deferred by the Secretary of State following the recommendation of the Committee.

The export deferred items included a 16th century cabinet miniature ‘The Spanish Armada in the year 1588’; the notebooks of Sir Charles Lyell; the ceramic sculpture of a large anthropomorphic crab by The Martin Brothers; the judge’s annotated copy of Lady Chatterley’s Lover from the 1960s obscenity trial; and the flag and sledge from Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Nimrod exhibition.

12 items were bought by individuals or institutions in the UK.
