Exning Estate Company has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract (take) water from a point in Main Drain south east of Ness Farm between grid references TL 60895 69547 and TL 61471 68414.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 83.3 cubic metres an hour

  • 2000 cubic metres a day

  • 150,000 cubic metres a year

Between 1 November and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for summer spray irrigation.

Further details are: Exning Estate Company has applied for a licence to abstract from a drain during winter months to be stored in a reservoir and used for irrigation during the summer. The size of the reservoir is such that the Flood and Reservoir Act will apply .

The proposed abstraction lies within the Cam and Ely Ouse Abstraction Licensing Strategy reporting area.
