Details

The Creative Careers Programme (CCP), funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), provides young people (aged 11 to 24), careers advisers, and schools across England with specialist information, advice, and guidance about pursuing a career in the creative industries. Following increased funding for the financial year 2025 to 2026, DCMS significantly expanded the programme to include three pilot strands and an expansion of the core strand. Alma Economics was commissioned by DCMS to conduct a process and impact evaluation of CCP for the financial year 2025 to 2026.

Learnings from the CCP evaluation are feeding into the design and delivery of the refreshed creative careers service, announced in the Creative Industries Sector Plan. This includes better integration with existing cross-economy careers and employment provision, more active support with accessing entry level employment in the sector, and a clearer articulation of career pathways in educational materials.

The government is working across a number of different policy areas to augment the objectives of this programme, including through development of the Creative Industries Jobs Plan which will set out industry and government actions to address hiring barriers and diversify the workforce. It has also issued a response to the Curriculum and Assessment Review, setting out the changes that will be made to the National Curriculum, including subject-specific recommendations in art and design, dance, drama, and music.
