1. Action: academy NNDR claim form for 2022 to 2023 is now open  

If your academy is continuing to pay the national non-domestic rates (NNDR) bill directly to the billing authority, the claim form is now open for you to re-claim this from ESFA. 

The deadline to submit your claim is 11:59pm on 22 May 2022. 

You can check the NNDR payment process your billing authority is implementing.

2. Information: Academies Accounts Direction 2021 to 2022 

We have published the Academies Accounts Direction 2021 to 2022 - the information for trustees, accounting officers, external auditors and reporting accountants use when preparing and auditing the trust’s annual report and financial statements. Compliance with the Accounts Direction, including the separate model accounts document, is a condition of an academy trust’s funding agreement.    

Details of the main changes to the Academies Accounts Direction are on pages 5 and 6 of the document.  

We have also published a model set of accounts, along with a framework and guide for external auditors and reporting accountants of academy trusts.

3. Information: register for the Academy Finance Professionals Power Hour on the budget forecast return (BFR) 

Join the next Power Hour on Thursday 28 April from 3pm to 4pm.

Find out more about the academies budget forecast return (BFR). Get information to help your academy trust submit its BFR to the Education and Skills Funding Agency. 

 The session will include: 

  • an introduction to the budget forecast return and how we use the data 

  • a short demonstration of the form – highlighting some of its key features  

There will be the opportunity to ask questions during the event.

4. Information: pupil premium allocations for 2022 to 2023 

We have now published the pupil premium allocations and conditions of grant for 2022 to 2023. Schools and local authorities must follow the terms and conditions set out in the conditions of grant. 

5. Information: student financial support for 2022 to 2023

We have now published the care to learn guide for the 2022 to 2023 academic year.

6. Information: financial returns go live and submission dates 

Please make a note of the following schedule for financial returns online forms. 

The budget forecast return (BFR) for 2022 will go live on 21 June 2022. The deadline for submission is 26 July 2022, as previously announced. 

The land and buildings collection tool (LBCT) for 2022 will go live on 4 October 2022. The deadline for submission is 8 November 2022. 

The academies accounts return (AR) for 2021 to 2022 will go live on 18 October 2022. The deadline for submission is 19 January 2023.
