1. Latest information on coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Department for Education has published guidance about COVID-19 in educational settings for staff, parents and carers, pupils and students on GOV.UK.

Please check GOV.UK regularly for updates.

2. Action: further education (FE) college capital funding allocations available on Manage your Education and Skills Funding service

The Prime Minister announced in June that an initial £200 million of the £1.5 billion in capital funding that will support the upgrading of the FE estate, will be brought forward to financial year 2020 to 2021. This will support FE colleges to undertake immediate remedial work in this financial year to upgrade the condition of their estate and provide a boost as the country and its education system emerges from lockdown. We aim to share more details on the wider funding programme this autumn. This will include plans for investment in future years.

Your grant letter and allocation amount are now available on Manage your education and skills funding service. You must sign your agreement by Friday 4 September to receive this grant in September.

This funding is for improving FE estates. It can only be used in accordance with the funded activities set out in both the project specific conditions and the Department for Education’s terms and conditions. We will contact colleges in administration separately about their funding allocations.

3. Information: version 3, ESFA adult education budget (AEB) funding and performance management rules 2020 to 2021

We have published version 3 of the ESFA AEB funding and performance management rules 2020 to 2021. This version includes an update on:

  • traineeships
  • sub-contracting
  • breaks in learning
  • learner support – COVID-19 recovery package
  • performance management section

The rules apply to all providers of education and training who receive AEB funding from ESFA. If you have any queries, please use our online enquiry form.

4. Information: school improvement monitoring and brokering grant September 2020 to March 2021

We will allocate £30 million for the school improvement monitoring and brokering grant to local authorities to cover the period September 2020 to March 2021.

The allocations will be published on GOV.UK by the end of September and paid on 30 October. We will confirm arrangements beyond March 2021 in due course.

This grant is to support local authorities in continuing to monitor performance of maintained schools, broker school improvement provision, and intervene as appropriate.
