This guidance is aimed at helping readers understand the European Community (EC) Directive 2000/53/EC on end-of life vehicles (ELV) (‘the Directive’), insofar as it relates to permitting the storage and treatment of end-of-life vehicles in England and Wales (i.e. Article 6 of and Annex I to the Directive).

The End-of-Life Vehicles Regulations 2003 (SI 2003 No. 2635) apply other provisions of the Directive. The End-of-Life Vehicles (Producer Responsibility) Regulations 2005 (SI 2005 No.263) apply provisions relating to recovery and recycling.
