The Environment Agency has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a new transfer licence for the Great Shefford Flood Mitigation Scheme at Great Shefford, West Berkshire.

Further details of the proposal are: The proposal will only operate during flood conditions to transfer water from the Great Shefford Stream at National Grid Reference (NGR) SU 38951 75825, connecting to an existing 1.35 metre diameter pipeline east of the village to discharge into the River Lambourn at NGR SU 38547 75044. During flooding, a flow of 500 litres per second will be maintained down the Great Shefford Stream with the pipeline taking excess flows up to its maximum capacity to limit the impact of fluvial flooding on the village of Great Shefford.
