Environment Agency: application made to abstract water

The Environment Agency has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for a licence. The application is for a new transfer licence for the purpose of a fish passage.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
This application is for the transfer of water from the River Thames at National Grid Reference (NGR) SU 66625 77036 via a fish pass to Scraces Ditch at NGR SU 66579 76960. The pass will be constructed around Mapledurham weir and will comprise of a gravity flow to a meandering, gravel bedded bypass channel approx. 1.5 metres wide to a resting pool and double vertical slot fish pass and incorporated brush eel pass, with a maximum design flow of 0.72 cubic metres per second.
Water will be transferred through the fish pass at the following maximum rates:
- 720 litres per second
- 2,592 cubic metres per hour
- 62,208 cubic metres per day
- 22,705,920 cubic metres per year.
All water will be returned to the River Thames immediately downstream of Mapledurham weir via Scraces Ditch.

The licence shall be viewed as granted, unless the Secretary of State, either as a result of any representations made about the proposal or otherwise, instructs or asks for an application to be made to them.
