Details of the application

The Environment Agency has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a new full abstraction licence to abstract (take) water from underground strata (Sherwood Sandstone) at Oxton, Nottinghamshire at National Grid Reference SK 61140 53810 for the purpose of augmenting flow in the Dover Beck for environmental support.

Further details of the proposal are:

The new licence will replace licence number 03/28/64/0284/R01, which expired on 31/03/2020, on materially the same terms;

  • to retain the authorised annual abstraction quantity of 192,000 cubic metres per year
  • to retain the authorised daily abstraction quantity of 1,000 cubic metre per day
  • to include a limit on total abstraction of 345,600 cubic metres over the total duration of the licence
  • to time limit the licence to expire on 31/03/2024 to fit in with the review of other licences in this catchment.

The licence shall be viewed as granted, unless the Secretary of State, either as a result of any representations made about the proposal or otherwise, instructs or asks for an application to be made to them.
