Details of the application

The Environment Agency has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for the transfer of water from the River Trent at Holme Sluice, Colwick at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 61279 39335 via a fish pass to NGR 61387 39397. The pass will be constructed around the existing structure at Holme Sluice and will comprise of a combined weir and notch pool pass fixed with Lamprey and Eel tiles.

Water will be transferred through the fish pass at the following maximum rates:

  • 4,900 litres per second
  • 17,640 cubic metres per hour
  • 423,360 cubic metres per day
  • 154,526,400 cubic metres per year.

All water will be returned immediately downstream of the sluice.
