Details of the application

The Environment Agency is applying to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural affairs for a new licence to replace licence number 4/30/11/*G/0107/R02, which expires on 31 March 2020.

The abstraction takes place from an underground strata comprising of Lincolnshire Limestone at Sleaford, North Kesteven, Lincolnshire at National Grid Reference TF 06041 45877 for the purpose of supply to the River Slea for augmentation. The new licence will be varied to change the abstraction quantities from 125 cubic meres per hour, 3,000 cubic metres per day and 400,000 cubic metres per year at a maximum instantaneous rate of 35 litres per second to 126 cubic metres per hour and 3,024 cubic metres per day at a maximum instantaneous rate of 35 litres per second and to include a 5 year total aggregate quantity specifying the abstraction shall not exceed 2,000,000 cubic metres between 01 April 2020 and 31 March 2025.

Further details on the proposal are: to bring the hourly and daily quantities into line with the instantaneous rate, as multiplied up, and to allow flexibility with the annual quantity so that more augmentation can occur in dry years if required whilst keeping overall abstraction at an average of 400,000 cubic metres per year over consecutive years.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
