The Environment Agency is applying to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

The application is for a new abstraction licence to transfer water for the purpose of maintaining flow through a fish, eel and lamprey pass at National Grid Reference TF 58951 01002 between the Relief Channel and the Ely Ouse River at the Denver Complex, Denver, Norfolk. The existing abstraction licence for the operation of the Denver Complex (Serial Number 6/33/51/*S/0002) will also be varied to ensure the fish, eel and lamprey pass transfer is included in the measurement of minimum residual flow for the site.

The application is to abstract water for transfer is as follows:

  • 3,420 cubic metres an hour
  • 82,080 cubic metres a day
  • 29,959,200 cubic metres a year
  • All year

Further details of the proposal are: the rate of flow will be measured through the fish, eel and lamprey pass using an acoustic doppler.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The licence shall be viewed as granted, unless the Secretary of State, either as a result of any representations made about the proposal or otherwise, instructs or asks for an application to be made to them.
