An application has been made to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs by Environment Agency. The Environment Agency are required to give notice of this application.

The application is for for the renewal of two abstraction licences to abstract groundwater at Blakedown, Kidderminster.

Further details of the proposal are that:

  • water is abstracted from Sherwood Sandstone at NGR SO 88848 78647 to support levels in Pavillion Pool and Harbrough Hall Pool, on a tributary of the Blakedown Brook to support local ecology
  • abstraction can take place at a rate of 508 cubic metres per day to 83,347 cubic metres per year

Water is also abstracted from Sherwood Sandstone at NGR SO 87982 77999 to support levels in Ladies, Forge and Swan Pools, on a tributary of the Blakedown Brook to support local ecology. Abstraction takes place at a rate of:

  • 2,000 cubic metres per day
  • 240,012 cubic metres per year

Both licences expired on 31 March 2014; the Environment Agency is applying to reinstate the licences on the same terms.

After expiry of the period for representations, the Environment Agency will be entitled to the grant of a licence which authorises the proposal which shall deemed to be granted, unless the Secretary of State, either in consequence of any representations made with respect to the proposal or otherwise, directs or requires an application to be made to him.
