The Environment Agency is applying to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

The application is for a new licence to replace a licence which expired on 31 March 2015. The expired licence permitted all year abstraction of 4,285,000 cubic metres per year from six chalk boreholes for the purpose of providing river support, known as the Lodes Granta Groundwater Support Scheme. The National Grid References (NGR) of the six boreholes are:

  • TL 5876 6135
  • TL 6467 6596
  • TL 6731 6680

The application is for a new licence on the same terms as the previous licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
