An application has been made to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs by the Environment Agency. The Environment Agency are required to give notice of this application.

The application is for a licence for an existing transfer of water from Ashford Water at Fordingbridge, Hampshire at National Grid Reference SU 14087 13967, through a fish pass without intervening use, to the Midgham Drain at National Grid Reference SU 14085 13958.

The fish pass is a key feature of the Fordingbridge flood relief channel and is in accordance with the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975.

The maximum quantities the fish pass is designed to take are as follows:

  • 1,091 cubic metres per hour
  • 26,184 cubic metres per day
  • 9,557,160 cubic metres per year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 303 litres per second

After expiry of the period for representations, the Environment Agency will be entitled to the grant of a licence which authorises the proposal which shall deemed to be granted, unless the Secretary of State, either in consequence of any representations made with respect to the proposal or otherwise, directs or requires an application to be made to him.
