Details

Monitoring the environment for radioactivity around nuclear sites helps us to assess any potential impacts from on-site activities on the environment and people. Some of this monitoring is carried out by the operators of nuclear sites, and some by our own independent contractors.

Since 2006 Sellafield Limited has used improved, more sensitive, radiation detection equipment for monitoring beaches for radioactive particles. This equipment was improved in 2009 to an even more sensitive detection system.
