Details of the application

Elsham Linc Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for seven full licences to abstract (take) water from underground strata (chalk)

at three farms (from four boreholes) at Brigg, North Lincolnshire at National Grid References: TA 01699 16129 (a), TA 03810 14345 (b1), TA 03812 14241 (b2) and TA 03069 15113 (c),

one farm at Burnham, North Lincolnshire at National Grid Reference (NGR): TA 06518 17232 (d),

one farm at Goxhill, Barrow-Upon-Humber, North Lincolnshire at NGR: TA 13178 23578 (e),

one farm at Barton-Upon-Humber, North Lincolnshire at NGR: TA 05308 21199 (f), and

one farm at South Reston, Louth, Lincolnshire at NGR: TF 40116 81794 (g).

The application is to abstract water from each borehole between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year as follows:

At (a) from a borehole 48.5 metres deep and 150 millimetres in diameter with a pump at

  • 4 cubic metres an hour
  • 96 cubic metres a day
  • 15,347 cubic metres a year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 1.11 litres per second.

At (b1) from a borehole 54.0 metres deep and 150 millimetres in diameter with a pump at

  • 2 cubic metres an hour
  • 48 cubic metres a day
  • 14,832 cubic metres a year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 0.55 litres per second.

At (b2) from a borehole 78.2 metres deep and 150 millimetres in diameter with a pump at

  • 2 cubic metres an hour
  • 48 cubic metres a day
  • 14,132 cubic metres a year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 0.55 litres per second.

At (c) from a borehole 53.5 metres deep and 150 millimetres in diameter with a pump at

  • 4.4 cubic metres an hour
  • 106 cubic metres a day
  • 14,485 cubic metres a year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 1.22 litres per second.

At (d) from a borehole 78.0 metres deep and 150 millimetres in diameter with a pump at

  • 5.1 cubic metres an hour
  • 123 cubic metres a day
  • 17,951 cubic metres a year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 1.39 litres per second.

At (e) from a borehole 39.5 metres deep and 150 millimetres in diameter with a pump at

  • 4 cubic metres an hour
  • 96 cubic metres a day
  • 12,432 cubic metres a year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 1.11 litres per second.

At (f) from a borehole 50.5 metres deep and 150 millimetres in diameter with a pump at

  • 3.1 cubic metres an hour
  • 75 cubic metres a day
  • 20,347 cubic metres a year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 0.85 litres per second.

At (g) from a borehole 60.0 metres deep and 150 millimetres in diameter with a pump at

  • 3 cubic metres an hour
  • 72 cubic metres a day
  • 15,111 cubic metres a year
  • at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 0.83 litres per second.

The water will be used for agriculture (other than spray irrigation) for stock watering at pig rearing units.
