An application has been made to the Environment Agency by Ellergreen Hydro Limited. The Environment Agency are required to give notice of this application.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the Fisherplace Gill at National Grid Reference (NGR) NY 32539 18184 at:

Fisherplace
Thirlspot
Cumbria
CA12 4TN

The proposal is to abstract water at the following rates and periods:

  • 738 cubic metres an hour
  • 17,712 cubic metres a day
  • 3,896,640 cubic metres a year

Between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year

The water will be used for hydro-electric power generation via a Turgo turbine.

All water abstracted will be returned to the Fisherplace Gill at NGR NY 31958 18312.

An application is also being made by Ellergreen Hydro Limited for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the Fisherplace Gill at Fisherplace, Thirlspot, Cumbria at the abstraction point specified above.

The object of impounding water by means of the works is to create an intake to effect the abstraction of water, to control the rate of abstraction and to protect a minimum flow in the source below the abstraction point.
