1. Information: traineeships – intention to deliver in 2016 to 2017

Providers will shortly receive an email from us asking about your intentions to deliver traineeships for 2016 to 2017. This annual exercise allows us to provide ministers with an estimate for the number of traineeships being planned for delivery, so that we can gauge the level of demand for traineeships and compare how the programme is developing.

2. Information: Secretary of State approved list of independent special schools in England and Wales and special post-16 institutions

We have published the latest Secretary of State approved list of independent special schools in England and Wales and special post-16 institutions. Parents and young people can express a preference for a school on the list for when their education, health and care plan (EHCP) is being agreed.

The application process is annual with the next application window opening on 6 May 2016. Guidance and supporting information is available on GOV.UK. The list is refreshed every term to reflect continued compliance with the requirements.

Newly established special post-16 institutions or newly registered independent special schools can submit an application as an ‘exception’ outside of the section 41 application process timeframe. Enquiries about this should be made to HNSSoS.EFA@education.gov.uk.

3. Reminder: Document Exchange file expiry

All files held in Document Exchange are automatically removed 13 months after they are uploaded. Please ensure you check EFA Information Exchange regularly to download and save any documents you need before they expire.

4. Information: new and updated energy for schools guidance

The Department for Education (DfE) is working with Crown Commercial Service (CCS) and academy stakeholder groups to provide schools and academies with a compliant route to the energy market. This will help schools achieve greater value for money when buying energy and avoid issues caused by the complexity and volatility of the energy market.

As part of this collaborative project, CCS has launched both new and updated energy for schools guidance to help schools when choosing their energy supplier for gas and electricity.
