1. Action: budget forecast return online form and guidance

All academy trusts open on or before 31 March 2016 must submit their budget forecast return for the 2016 to 2017 academic year by 31 July 2016 using the academies budget forecast online form.

The only exceptions to this are:

  • if a new academy joins an existing multi-academy trust (MAT) on or after the submission deadline of 31 July 2016, then a separate return for that academy will be required
  • for trusts opening between 1 April 2016 and 31 March 2017, the deadline is either 6 weeks following receipt of their funding letter or 31 July 2016, whichever is the later

A guide to completing and submitting your 2016 to 2017 budget forecast return and a training video are now available. We encourage academy trusts to use the workbook and guidance to help complete their return.

You can also access a recording of our webinar on the 2016 to 2017 budget forecast return that was held on 10 June 2016.

2. Information: funding of legacy GCSEs and IGCSEs in English, English language and mathematics in 2016 to 2017

We have updated the guidance note on how the SFA and EFA will fund legacy GCSEs and IGCSEs in English, English Language and mathematics in 2016 to 2017. If you have any queries, please contact us via our online form.

3. Information: schools financial health checks – could your school help other schools?

As part of the initiative to help schools improve their financial management and efficiency, we’re developing a directory of organisations that can provide financial health checks for schools.

We’re aiming to publish the schools financial health checks supplier directory over the summer. This will include clear advice to schools on how to select the supplier that will best meet their needs and provide value for money.

We know that schools are keen to work with suitable multi-academy trusts with a strong track record of good financial management who have the capacity and capability to deliver these financial health checks.

If you think your trust could provide this service, please email schools financial health and efficiency for further information and a supplier registration form.
