Earsham Gravels Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 7/34/18/*G/0041 which authorises the abstraction of water from a gravel pit fed by the River Waveney Terrace Deposits – Sands and Gravels at National Grid Reference (NGR) TM 3180 9028 at Earsham Gravels Limited, Earsham, Bungay, Suffolk, NR35 2AE.

The current licence authorises abstraction of the following for the purpose of Mineral Washing:

  • 11.4 cubic metres an hour
  • 91 cubic metres a day
  • 27,276 cubic metres a year
  • All year

The variation applied for is to update the abstraction point to a seepage lagoon at NGR TM 31794 90258 also fed by the Sands and Gravels at Earsham Gravels Limited and increase the abstraction quantities to the following:

  • 120 cubic metres an hour
  • 900 cubic metres a day
  • 280,800 cubic metres a year

Abstraction shall continue to be authorised all year for the purpose of Mineral Washing.
