Updated 23 March 2020

Inclusive Transport Leader

There are 3 levels of accreditation in the Inclusive Transport Leaders Scheme:

  • Inclusive Transport Committed
  • Inclusive Transport Operator
  • Inclusive Transport Leader

Each of these accreditation levels represents a step on the journey to becoming a leader in inclusive travel.

Inclusive Transport Leader accreditations last for 3 years. At the end of this 3 year period, you must reapply for accreditation.

Once you’ve read this guidance, apply for Inclusive Transport Leader accreditation.

Inclusive Transport Leader criteria

To become an Inclusive Transport Leader, you must demonstrate that you have led the way, and can continue to lead the way, in making transport more accessible to disabled people.

You will do this by fulfilling the criteria listed below.

Fulfil all Inclusive Transport Committed criteria and Inclusive Transport Operator criteria

To be recognised as an Inclusive Transport Leader, you must have fulfilled all criteria associated with the Inclusive Transport Committed and Inclusive Transport Operator accreditations.

Leadership in inclusive travel

You must be able to demonstrate that you have shown leadership in inclusive travel (relative to the size and scale of your service provision) in the last 2 years. This could include:

  • having shared good accessibility practice with other operators, including operators in other modes of transport
  • having collaborated with other operators or local authorities in shared inclusivity projects

You must also pledge to continue to demonstrate leadership in inclusive travel (relative to the size and scale of your service provision) over the next 3 years. This means committing to:

  • maintaining and improving on the high standards of accessibility you have achieved
  • helping to establish a forum for the exchange of good practice in accessibility across the transport sector, especially between operators in different modes of transport
  • acting as public-facing ambassador for inclusive travel
  • validating applications of operators applying for Inclusive Transport Leader accreditation
