E C Drummond (Agriculture) Ltd has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 19/55/18/0061 which authorises abstraction from the River Wye at Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire between National Grid References (NGRs) SO 57931 23283 and SO 56821 21430 and at National Grid Reference (NGR) SO 57512 22700. The licence authorises a total abstraction of 2,774 cubic metres per day and 90,920 cubic metres per year between February and September inclusive for the purpose of spray irrigation.

The variation applied for is to add abstraction points and reaches at multiple locations on the River Wye. The location, quantities and abstraction period for each point/reach are as follows:

  1. Between NGRs SO 58500 23751 and SO 58807 23995 at the rates of 177 cubic metres per hour, 2,774 cubic metres per day and 29,353 cubic metres per year between March and September inclusive.

  2. Between NGRs SO 56800 20869 and SO 57223 20408 at the rates of 177 cubic metres per hour, 2,774 cubic metres per day and 20,261 cubic metres per year between March and September inclusive.

  3. Between NGRs SO 57354 20311 and SO 57889 19100 at the rates of 177 cubic metres per hour, 2,774 cubic metres per day and 20,261 cubic metres per year between March and September inclusive.

  4. At NGR SO 56830 21410 at the rates of 177 cubic metres per hour, 1,819 cubic metres per day and 68,190 cubic metres per year between March and September inclusive.

  5. At NGR SO 57150 20650 at the rates of 177 cubic metres per hour, 1,819 cubic metres per day and 68,190 cubic metres per year between March and September inclusive.

  6. At NGR SO 57589 20255 at the rates of 177 cubic metres per hour, 1,819 cubic metres per day and 68,190 cubic metres per year between March and September inclusive.

  7. Between NGRs SO 59100 25515 and SO 59200 25000 at the rates of 159 cubic metres per hour, 3,182 cubic metres per day and 45,455 cubic metres per year between April and September inclusive.

  8. Between NGRs SO 58800 27100 and SO 58400 25900 at the rates of 159 cubic metres per hour, 3,182 cubic metres per day and 45,455 cubic metres per year between April and September inclusive.

  9. At NGR SO 57375 30863 at the rates of 177 cubic metres per hour, 2,774 cubic metres per day and 76,892 cubic metres per year between February and September inclusive.

It is proposed that the total aggregate quantity to be authorised under licence 19/55/18/0061 from all existing and new abstraction points/reaches shall be as follows:

  • 446 cubic metres an hour
  • 4,593 cubic metres a day
  • 159,110 cubic metres a year

The water will be used for the purpose of spray irrigation.

Further details are: Abstraction points 4, 5 and 6 above are currently authorised under licence 19/55/18/0424 at the aggregate rates of 177 cubic metres per hour, 1,819 cubic metres per day and 68,190 cubic metres per year and shall be merged with licence 19/55/18/0061 for the duration of the variation
