Details of the application
The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Nuclear Restoration Services Limited.

Regulated facility type
The regulated facility will enable the partial infilling of below ground voids at the Steam Generating Heavy Water Reactor and Dragon Reactor at the Winfrith Site. Infilling works will be undertaken as a recovery activity, with site derived construction and demolition materials, which are classified as non-radiological and non-hazardous waste. A separate permit variation application is being made to cover use of waste on-site for infilling, which are subject to a radioactive substances regulations permit. A link to the RSR variation application is listed below. The wider regulated facility will support decommissioning at the Winfrith Site and align with the agreed end state design for the facility.
