Introduction of a new drug driving offence and screening devices

A new drug driving policy allowing police to prosecute drivers whose blood samples contain drugs, and information about new roadside drug screening devices.



A new driving offence was announced by the government in January 2012 with regard to driving with a specific controlled drug in the body above the accepted limit for that drug.

This background information provides further details on the reasons why we are introducing a new offence, the way it will work and the difference between it and existing legislation.
