Applies to England

The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 (that does not involve substantial change) from Severn Trent Water.

  • Application number: T/83/45356/R/V001
  • Regulated facility type: Wastewater Treatment Works
  • Regulated facility location: Armthorpe Wastewater Treatment Works, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, DN3 3TA.
  • National grid reference discharge point: SE 64302 04402
  • Receiving environment: Unnamed Drain leading to Fore’s Drain
  • Effluent type: Secondary treated sewage effluent
  • Volume: 4,025 cubic metres per day (under Dry Weather Flow conditions)

The wastewater treatment works is currently struggling to achieve stringent ammonia limits during the winter months and temporary treatment measures are being put in place which includes chemical dosing with ferrous sulphate. As a consequence, the Operator is requesting a variation to their current permit to include an iron limit. No other changes have been requested. A long term solution is being sought by the Operator to remove the requirement for temporary treatment.
