We have received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following: 

I would appreciate any information you can provide regarding Derby’s current situation in terms of the dispersal of asylum seekers, including answers to the following:
1) Are asylum seekers currently being dispersed to the city (and in what numbers and ethnicity, if available)?
2) Please can you supply the most recent statistics available on the asylum seeker population in Derby (including the current status of their asylum application if possible).

We released the following information on 29 June 2012.

 

1) Yes, asylum seekers are currently being dispersed to Derby and relevant data is provided below.

(Please note figures are rounded to the nearest 5 ( - = 0, * = 1 or 2) and may not sum to the totals shown because of independent rounding. Figures relate to main applicants and dependants. Nationalities relate to main applicants)

2) There are currently 79 asylum seekers with a last known address in Derby. Of these 58 are main applicants and 21 are dependants. With reference to the main applicants, 44 are awaiting an initial decision and 14 are in the appeal process.
