This direction requires the council to co-operate with an adviser appointed by the Secretary of State for Education.

It follows publication of:

• a report by Ofsted, which judged the overall effectiveness of Dudley’s children’s social care services as inadequate
• an independent report by Eleanor Brazil, Dudley Children’s Services Commissioner

This direction also follows an earlier direction (now revoked) issued to the council on 5 April 2016.

The direction was lifted on 10 December 2018.
