The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from A McCall & Sons (Houghton-Le-Spring) Limited.

1.16.12 This application is for a substantial variation to Environmental Permit EPR/GP3994ZQ. The operator has applied to add a physical treatment of non-hazardous waste activity to their existing inert landfill permit.
This will also allow the operator to store and treat waste to produce soil, soil substitutes and aggregate. The annual throughput is upto 10,000 tonnes. Also a minor variation to the Hydrological Risk Assessment condition.
