This letter responds to a Freedom of Information request about the Working Time Directive (WTD). The original request asked:
whether DfT follows the WTD and whether there are any exceptions to this rule and why
whether there any civil service staff within the DfT that are exempt from the WTD and why
how contractors working for the DfT are affected
what DfT’s general requirements are for staff taking rest breaks whilst driving
DfT responds with answers to all questions and explains that the Working Time Regulations are applicable to all staff employed by the Department whether they are full-time, part-time or casual staff.
