Devonport Royal Dockyard Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for two full licences to abstract groundwater from made ground and Saltash Formation at:

10 Dock (an area contained within the boundary formed by straight lines running between National Grid References (NGRs) SX 44634 56330, SX 44694 56108, SX 44633 56105 and SX 44577 56330).

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 180 cubic metres an hour
  • 4,320 cubic metres a day
  • 176,800 cubic metres a year.

5 Basin (an area contained within the boundary formed by straight lines running between NGRs SX 44714 56729, SX 44806 56654, SX 44826 56435 and SX 44797 56414).

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 200 cubic metres an hour
  • 4,800 cubic metres a day
  • 1,752,000 cubic metres a year.

The water will be used for dewatering to enable construction and rehabilitation works. 

Further details are: Groundwater abstracted from 5 Basin will be treated on site and returned to 5 Basin at National Grid Reference (NGR) SX 44775 56550. Groundwater abstracted from 10 Dock will be treated on site and returned to 5 Basin at NGR SX 44578 56342 and 4 Basin at NGR SX 44797 56097.
