Guidance on the design rules that form the basis of the directional signing system recommended by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 1994.

While this document gives current advice on the design and use of directional informatory signs, there is:

• a newer primary destinations in England list in the Guidance on road classification and the primary route network
• more accurate and site-specific guidance on the calculation of x-heights in chapter 7 of the Traffic signs manual
