Department of Health Improvement Plan: April 2014

Sets out what DH will do to ensure the long term health and success of the department.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The plan has been developed following an assessment of the 4 critical themes of organisational effectiveness: performance; efficiency and innovation; capability; strategic risk and leadership of change. It sets out where the department is currently, what it has achieved, where it needs to be in future and the improvements that the department needs to make to get there.

The plan is in 2 parts:

  • becoming a better health department
  • becoming a better department of state and building the skills and resilience of staff

The actions in the plan are structured around 7 functions of stewardship, and the 4 themes of civil service reform:

  • more digital
  • more skilled
  • better policy making
  • more unified, open and accountable
