In December 2022, governments agreed the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, including Target 3, known as 30by30: a commitment to effectively conserve and manage at least 30% of the world’s land and inland waters, and marine and coastal areas, by 2030.

This publication, produced by the UK government with support from a range of partners and contributors, explores how the shift from commitment to credible delivery is happening in practice.

Drawing on examples from the UK, UK Overseas Territories and international partners, it shows:

  • what effective, inclusive and durable conservation can look like on the ground
  • the long-term vision for this work
  • the role of local communities in making it happen
