Details of the application

Dearnsdale Fruit has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a new full licence to abstract groundwater at National Grid Reference SJ 82560 22780 near Gnosall in the Staffordshire Trent Valley.

The purpose for abstraction is for trickle irrigation of a variety of fruits using a new borehole installed down to 27 metres below ground level in the Mercia Mudstone aquifer which overlies the Sherwood Sandstone aquifer.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 27 cubic metres an hour
  • 648 cubic metres a day
  • 163,134 cubic metres a year
  • All year.
