This is the standardised cross-government guidance for the data engineer role.

There are 3 other role levels in data engineering:

  • head of data engineering
  • lead data engineer
  • senior data engineer

  1. We have replaced content about the Civil Service Competency Framework with content about the new Civil Service Success Profile Framework.

  2. Following a change in naming conventions, we have changed 'capabilities' to 'skills' and 'levels of mastery' to 'skill levels'.

  3. Version 2 of this guidance contains updated capabilities and some remapping of Civil Service competencies to the job role.
