Dart Renewables Limited of Manor Farm, Kirkham Abbey, York, YO60 7JS has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 14/46/004/0591 to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Dart between National Grid References (NGR) SX 80033 61280 and SX 80067 61223.

The variation applied for is:

  • to obstruct or impede the flow of an inland water by means of works to install twin Archimedes screw turbines on the southern bankside of Totnes Weir
  • install a new fish pass adjacent to the turbines
  • remove the baulk fish pass and refurbish the existing fish pass in the River Dart at Totnes Weir

Further details are: The current Full and Transfer abstraction licences located on the north bank of the River Dart at Totnes Weir will be revoked should this proposal be granted. The scheme will enhance fish migration over Totnes Weir, and will include salmon monitoring via the fish passage structures.
