Details of the applications

Darren Brown and Rajan Russell have applied to the Environment Agency for two licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The first application is for a full licence to abstract water from Mells Stream at Wadbury Mill, Frome, Somerset at National Grid Reference (NGR) ST 73873 48859.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 4,680 cubic metres an hour
  • 112,320 cubic metres a day
  • 40,996,800 cubic metres a year
  • between January and December in each year.

The water will be used for hydroelectric power generation. All the abstracted water will be returned to the Mells Stream 240 metres downstream at NGR ST 74068 48969.

The second application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the Mells Stream at Wadbury Mill at NGR ST 73881 48850 by reinstating a sluice gate on the existing weir.
