Dane Valley Community Energy Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from the River Dane at Havannah Weir, Congleton at National Grid Reference (NGR) SJ 86895 64700, to transfer it to a new channel before returning to the River Dane immediately downstream of the weir. The HEP turbine is housed within the channel.

The application is to abstract water all year at the following rates:

  • 9,000 cubic metres an hour
  • 216,000 cubic metres a day
  • 53,362,800 cubic metres a year
  • At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 2,500 litres per second.

The water will be used to generate hydro-electric power (HEP) before returning to the River Dane immediately downstream of the weir at National Grid Reference (NGR) SJ 86860 64675.
