A series of events will be taking place in the UK and France, to commemorate the lives lost on 6 June 1944 and during the ensuing Battle of Normandy.

Why is it called D-Day?

The term D-Day was traditionally used to denote the day an important military operation or invasion would take place. The day before June 6 1944 was known as D-1, while the day after was D+1.
