FOI release

Contact details of close protection operatives

Published 12 December 2022

1. Request

I am trying to get hold of close protection operatives and wanted to know if the SIA has a database of professionals or ways in which I could access this information, as I have work across the UK which will be high volume in the close protection world.

2. Response

I can confirm that the SIA does hold the information you have requested.

Whilst the SIA knows who holds close protection licences, the SIA does not know whether those with close protection licences are actively working in close protection positions as the SIA is not their employer. Moreover, the SIA are unable to disclosure individual names or contact details of those who hold close protection licences. Names and contact details are considered personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (2018) in this context; by law we are not permitted to disclose them.

Those who hold SIA licences is publicly available information. The SIA has a public register of licence holders, which you can find and search through here: SIA register of licence holders

A relevant FOI response that you may find useful in respect of using the public register of licence holders can be read here: Using the SIA’s register of licence holders

An individual who holds a close protection licence would also be covered to work in a door supervisor and security guard position.
