The Low Pay Commission (LPC) is the body responsible for advising the Government on the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage. In our work, we hear extensive evidence about compliance and enforcement with the minimum wage, and we publish regular reports considering this evidence.
This report sets out data on minimum wage underpayment up to April 2022. It uses innovative analysis to look at what happened to underpaid workers from year to year between 2012 and 2019, and how likely they were to escape underpaying jobs. Finally, it brings together evidence from employers and low-paid workers on employment conditions, the labour market and the factors which force workers to accept exploitation.
The current rates of the NLW and NMW are as follows:
