Requesting replacement certificates for apprenticeship frameworks
Updated 1 May 2025
Applies to England
Apprenticeship frameworks
In 2020, apprenticeship frameworks were withdrawn and replaced by apprenticeship standards. From 1 August 2020, the Department for Education (DfE) required all apprentices to start on an apprenticeship standard.
Apprenticeship standards were first introduced in 2017. They were developed by employer groups in conjunction with the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE). They replaced apprenticeship frameworks developed by training providers.
Replacement certificates
If an apprentice’s certificate is incorrect, damaged or lost, they can request a replacement from DfE by:
- calling the National Apprenticeship Helpdesk on 0800 0150 400
- emailing nationalhelpdesk@apprenticeships.gov.uk
Certificates can take up to 3 weeks to arrive.
