Published 3 March 2022

1. Request

I’d like to know the following:

  • How many complaints concerning doormen at nightclubs in Sheffield have you received in the last 5 years?
  • What was the nature of these reports?
  • How many doormen have been suspended in the last 5 years in Sheffield?

2. Response

I can confirm the SIA holds part of the information requested, which can be found below.

2.1 Complaints about Sheffield door supervisors in the last 5 years

The SIA does not run a formal complaints scheme in relation to the conduct of businesses or individuals operating in the private security industry. Nor does it operate a complaints scheme in relation to licensed premises. We are nonetheless interested to know about any alleged wrongdoing or poor practice on the part of security companies or individual operatives.

When the SIA receives information from a member of the public regarding the conduct of a private security business or its operatives it is treated as intelligence. This is because any information received can only be utilised by the SIA in so far as it informs any investigation into breaches of the PSIA or the licence / ACS criteria and conditions.

2.2 Sheffield soor supervisors suspended in the last 5 years

Over the last 5 years, 54 door supervisors (both men and women) have been suspended in the local authority of Sheffield. Please note that this location is based on the licence holder’s home address, which does not necessarily relate to their location of work. The SIA does not hold information on location of work.
