Comparing the number of men and women with revoked SIA licences
Published 5 September 2024
Request
How many licences have been revoked, split by male and female?
Response
We can provide the requested information for the last 5 calendar years (2019 to 2024, to date).
Please be aware that some licence holders may hold multiple licences in different sectors and, in the event of revocation, all their licences would be revoked which would increase the overall figure for that year.
Please also be aware that a large percentage of revocations relate to the expiry of a licence holder’s right to work in the UK, not criminality. 77% of revocations in 2023 and 85% of revocations in 2024, to date, were due to right-to-work expiry.
Lastly, the increase in the number of women whose licences were revoked in 2021 and 2022 relates to EU exit changes and the requirement for the SIA to conduct right to work checks on EEA national licence applicants from 1 July 2021.
This has resulted in a significant increase in the number of licence applicants and holders who are subject to right-to-work checks, which has in turn resulted in an increase in right-to-work-related revocations as licence holders’ right to work in the UK expires.
