3. Information Released

Companies House is primarily a registry of company information relating to limited companies and other entities. This information is made available to the public. The register holds information about company officers, their registered office address and their accounting records. Any company, including FinTech firms, registered with Companies House have to provide a nature of business, through a Standard Industrial Class (SIC) code. However, there is not a SIC code with the specific description ‘FinTech’. You can find the full list of SIC codes used by companies here: https://resources.companieshouse.gov.uk/sic/

Whilst we will hold some of the requested information about companies registered with Companies House, we do not specifically hold a list of all the FinTech companies as we do not collate information in this way. The information held by Companies House that would be within the scope of your request is exempt under Section 21 of the FOIA. Any information that is reasonably accessible to the applicant is except information under the Act.

To be of assistance, you may find the following information useful. Company information is made available online through Companies House Service. You can search for information about individual companies, including their officers and their service address: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/

There is also an advanced search option which allows you to filter the register by categories, including name and SIC code and download the results as a CSV file. This can be found here: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/advanced-search
