This document is a practical aid to companies considering how the rules on campaigning during the EU referendum period affect their activities.

It is intended to be read alongside the legislation (the European Union Referendum Act 2015 and the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000) and the guidance issued by the Electoral Commission.

The government has prepared this document in response to increasing queries from companies for more information.
