Community cohesion and PREVENT: how have schools responded?

Details

The Education and Inspections Act 2006 placed a new duty on the governing bodies of maintained schools in England to promote community cohesion.

This report presents research to assess the effect on schools and local authorities of implementing the duty, and the extent to which schools are aware of, and contributing to, the government’s PREVENT strategy.

Specifically, the study:

  • investigates how schools and local authorities have implemented the duty
  • compares the variation in responses
  • identifies promising practice among schools and local authorities
