Starting in 2019, community based protection will apply targeted measures for persons with disabilities in the community to contribute to co-designing multidisciplinary disability-inclusive protection programmes.

Please enter the exact wording of the commitment/s, including details of others who have supported its development (75 words limit): The International Committee of the Red Cross Physical Rehabilitation Programme (PRP) is committed to improving the availability and affordability of assistive devices.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan (75 words limit)

By the end of 2019, the ICRC will build upon 40 years of assistive technology and service provision experience to deliver a broader range of high quality PRP-developed assistive devices than is currently provided, and post a 25% reduction in the average cost. Through new partnerships and support for sector-wide initiatives, ICRC-developed assistive devices will be made available to a broader range of service providers to facilitate distribution to the widest possible group of users.

Please enter the exact wording of the commitment/s, including details of others who has supported its development (75 words limit): The International Committee of the Red Cross is committed to improving awareness among its staff and understanding barriers that persons with disabilities face in contexts of armed conflict and other situations of violence.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan (75 words limit)

In 2018-2019, awareness and understanding of barriers that persons with disabilities face will be improved through revisions of staff integration and management training using case studies for guidance in inclusive approaches, and applying a disability-lens to analysis, needs assessments, and monitoring & evaluation (ongoing beyond 2019).

In 2018-2019 the International Committee of the Red Cross intends to work cooperatively with other humanitarian actors (including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies) who are working to develop data collection approaches suitable for, and to understand data needs in, humanitarian contexts.

An intersectional approach will be applied to data collection, research and reporting of diversity and inclusion of girls and women with disabilities in operations.

In 2018 the International Committee of the Red Cross Physical Rehabilitation Programme will join the Global Partnership for Assistive Technology, providing technical expertise, sharing knowledge and coordinating practices in order to leverage its experience and products for the advancement of the worldwide rehabilitation sector.

In its operations, the International Committee of the Red Cross will work towards understanding barriers that prevent equal access to services and adapting its approach so that persons with disabilities can access humanitarian services.
